This sunrise was captured on a quiet summer morning at Inkwell Beach. The sun had just broken the horizon, and the reflection created the illusion of the light splitting in two across the water. A small group of birds passed through at the perfect moment, adding to the peaceful, almost spiritual feeling of the scene. Inkwell Beach holds a deep and important place in African-American history on Martha’s Vineyard, and this image embodies the serenity and connection so many people feel in this special place.

About the photograph:
This image was taken on a late winter afternoon at Lambert’s Cove, home to some of the most beautiful dunes and white sand on the island. The snow fences cutting across the landscape create that classic Vineyard feel. As the sun began to set, a thick fog rolled in — unusual for that time of year — and it created a surreal moment where the sun seemed to melt into the fog itself. The saturated colors and soft atmosphere were unlike anything I’d seen at Lambert’s Cove in winter.

About the photograph:
This image was taken in the spring at Herring Creek, just as the sun was rising. The soft reflections on the water and the presence of this solitary egret stopped me in my tracks. The scene reminded me of a story I later wrote called Isolation vs. Solitude, where I explored the difference between feeling cut off from the world and choosing to be quietly connected to it. This egret wasn’t isolated at all — it was grounded, peaceful, and fully present in its moment.

About the photograph:
A few weeks before this image was taken, I photographed a complete sandstone arch at Lucy Vincent Beach — the sun shining perfectly through the center opening. That earlier photograph became the cover of my 2025 calendar. When I returned shortly after, the arch had collapsed. What you see here is the after, with brilliant sunlight turning the sandstone a deep orange as waves crashed through the newly formed opening. It’s a reminder that nature is ever-changing — attach to nothing, and find beauty in what’s there, exactly as it is.

About the photograph:
I use a moon-tracking app to line up full moon shots, and on this night it showed a rare alignment: the moon would set directly behind the Menemsha jetty and bell buoy — the classic Vineyard scene reminiscent of Jaws. I raced there, made it just in time, and caught the moon dipping into the water with a soft pink glow and glassy, still water. A quiet, perfect moment.

This aerial photograph of the Gay Head Light was captured with a drone, revealing a perspective most people never see. The lighthouse — moved inland to avoid collapsing into the sea — appears small against the sweep of the colorful clay cliffs. Even after being relocated for safety, its position still feels precarious from the air. I love this image because it captures both the vulnerability and beauty of one of the island’s most iconic landmarks.

The Flying Horses Carousel in Oak Bluffs is the oldest operating platform carousel in the United States, and I was given access to photograph it after hours. One afternoon, when the carousel closed for the day, the Preservation Trust handed me the keys so I could create images for their website while also capturing pieces for my gallery.
For nearly two hours, I had the entire carousel to myself. I brought in lighting to reveal details and colors that most people never see under the dim bulbs of regular operating hours. It was a surreal feeling to be alone in a place where generations of families have passed through for nearly a century. I even flew my drone inside to capture unique angles from above. This photograph reflects the true vibrancy and spirit of the Flying Horses in a way only controlled lighting — and total silence — can reveal.
