This piece is printed on a high-gloss aluminum panel using dye-sublimation, where inks are infused directly into the metal surface. The result is a print with rich color, crisp detail, and a depth that almost appears three-dimensional compared to traditional paper prints. These metal prints are weather-resistant, moisture-resistant, scratch-resistant, and color-safe, making them exceptionally durable and ideal for long-term display.
About the photograph:
The Flying Horses Carousel in Oak Bluffs is the oldest operating platform carousel in the United States, and I was given access to photograph it after hours. One afternoon, when the carousel closed for the day, the Preservation Trust handed me the keys so I could create images for their website while also capturing pieces for my gallery.
For nearly two hours, I had the entire carousel to myself. I brought in lighting to reveal details and colors that most people never see under the dim bulbs of regular operating hours. It was a surreal feeling to be alone in a place where generations of families have passed through for nearly a century. I even flew my drone inside to capture unique angles from above. This photograph reflects the true vibrancy and spirit of the Flying Horses in a way only controlled lighting — and total silence — can reveal.
